Landing Zone Requirements
Safety Precautions
1. Keep vehicles, personnel and bystanders back at least 100 feet
2. Always approach aircraft from the front
3. No loose blankets or clothing on or around patient
4. No smoking within 100 feet of the helicopter
5. Do not attempt to open or close aircraft doors
6. Do not raise anything above head height
7. Remain clear of tail rotor at all times
8. Do not approach aircraft unless signaled to do so by a crew member
9. Protect patient from blowing debris and rotor wash
Requesting Agency Information
1. Name and call back number
2. Incident Type and patient description
3. Location, major cross streets, major coordinates, landmarks, etc.
4. Ground contact information and frequency

Landing Requirements
1. Daytime -75 x 75 foot area
2. Nighttime -100 x 100 foot area
3. Marking devices that are secured to ground -flashlights, strobes, etc.
4. Night Emergency vehicle with roof top lights on, spotlights aimed down at landing site
5. Upwind if hazardous materials scenes
6. No obstructions -from trees, wires, vehicles and loose debris
7. Dusty –control area by wetting down
8. Flat, smooth area, preferably paved
Inter-facility Transport
Inter-facility preparation and stabilization of patients prior to transport should be done according to the facilities current capabilities. *Trauma patients will require trauma packaging for transport.
